This power can be used to pass power along with the picture output to a second location. ![]() This 9V is used to power the Sky eye which passes signal back to the sky box allowing the box to operated from the second room. This ability to pass back a signal is normally denoted on distribution equipment as 'having a return path' ADVANTAGES of Sky Magic Eye Allows the remote operation of the sky box Normally operates very well Very inexpensive option Can be used in conjunction with Link Amplifiers and certain Distribution Amplifiers to work a number of sky eyes off a single box. ![]() DISADVANTAGES of Sky Magic Eye Though sky eyes are very handy, they are also extremely sensitive and prone to stop working for a range of reasons such as cable length being too long, bad connection or a low quality splitter. ![]() ![]() I have read and re read all the posts about magic eye problems but nothing seems to explain the problem I have going on. The old sky+hd box had 2 scart connections but the new 1tb box only has one. The magic eye was connected directly to the sky box but now I have a scart extension. It still sends a picture to the bedroom but sadly I can't change any of the channels in there. There are lots of threads about RF2 outlet but I can't use this as the magic eye cable has a scart attachment not a coax one. Also there is so much noise interruption on the bedroom tv it is hardly watchable. Help please all you experts. Click to expand. Then it's not a Sky Magic Eye. Magic Eyes are only powered by connecting to RF2 out of the Sky box - and only work by sending the key presses of the remote control in front of the Magic Eye back to the Sky box via RF2. What it sounds like you have is a wireless AV receiver/sender - and luckily for you, we have an eagle-eyed moderator from Hull who spends much of his time helping people with AV sender/receiver queries. At a guess a scart splitter only works in one direction (i.e. Sends the scart signal from the one input to all the outputs) but won't work in the other direction - sending the key presses sent to one of the outputs back up the cable that is the input. The quickest fix for you will probably be to get a Magic Eye, which will connect via RF2, and which won't conflict with the scart connections you are running from the TV. It seems that the splitter or the scart have a dodgy connection. He has just been fiddling, as you men do, putting scarts into different places but ultimately returning them all to their original places, and now it works!! Thanks for your info- it's really weird as we have been fiddling with this for days, so why should it now work? Uh oh - he has pushed the tv stand back in and now it doesn't work. Back to square one- think we should look at the connections don't you? I have delayed posting this while we re jiggling the connections and we're back to square one- not working. We made sure the dvd recorder and surround sound were all working and that's when it stopped sending to the bedroom. All too technical for us. Big help please. Lose the splitter. It's almost certainly the splitter refusing to return the signal from one of its outputs to its input. Forget the DVD recorder for the time being - just connect the single AV sender to the scart socket on the back of the Sky box, and make sure that (1) the signal is sent from the scart socket to the AV sender, from the sender to the receiver, and from the receiver to the remote TV and make sure that (2) the key presses on the remote control in front of the remote TV are being sent from remote control to receiver, from receiver to sender, and from sender back to Sky box. If they are then it is almost certainly the splitter that is causing the problems - as I alluded to in my first reply. The splitter will be unidirectional - it will pass a signal from the one input to the multiple outputs, but almost certainly won't pass a signal from the multiple outputs back to the one input. That's been a lot of writing that's made my eagle eye almost lose track of the prey. If you're saying that the picture and sound are getting from the receiver to the TV without any problem, and the problem is only with getting the remote control back to the receiver then that has nothing whatever to do with the Scart or any other connection! The remote control gets back to the receiver by the videosender's unit in the extension room accepting the IR signal and sending it wirelessly to the unit in the receiver room which then transmits it either directly or by a cabled emitter to the receiver. Either you're not pointing the remote control properly at the extension room's unit, or the receiving room's unit or its emitter isn't in line of sight to the receiver. About the Scarts, you need to ensure that they and the adapter are fully wired, and that their Input/Output switches are set correctly. Well, we tried that but nothing happened but then maybe we weren't doing it right- its all a bit technical for us you know Just tried something different- moved the eye thing to centre of sky box and put sender in different position and gradually we have found a place where it works The eye does work so I suppose the situation of all the componenets was the key issue. We'll leave it for a while to see if it keeps working. Thanks to Logiciel and Broadz for all your help- we got there in the end, hopefully!!
